“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor.”

Part 1: The Tributes

The story begins in District 12, a poor mining region in the dystopian nation of Panem. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister Prim’s place in the annual Hunger Games, a brutal televised competition where 24 children fight to the death. Alongside her is Peeta Mellark, the male tribute from District 12. They travel to the Capitol, where they meet their drunken mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, and their stylist, Cinna, who helps them stand out during the opening ceremonies.

Part 2: The Games Begin

After training and a televised interview, Katniss and Peeta enter the arena. The Games start with a bloodbath at the Cornucopia, where many tributes die. Katniss avoids the initial violence and survives by relying on her hunting skills. She forms an alliance with Rue, a young tribute from District 11, but Rue is later killed, sparking a small rebellion in the districts.

Part 3: The Star-Crossed Lovers

To gain favor with sponsors, Katniss and Peeta pretend to be in love, a strategy devised by Haymitch. When the rules suddenly change, allowing two victors from the same district, Katniss finds Peeta, who is badly injured. She nurses him back to health, and their romance captivates the audience.

Part 4: The Final Showdown

Only a few tributes remain, including the ruthless Career tributes. Katniss outsmarts them using tracker jacker venom and destroys their supplies. When only she and Peeta are left, the Capitol reverses the rule change, forcing them to fight. Instead, they threaten a double suicide by eating poisonous berries, forcing the Gamemakers to declare them both winners.

Part 5: The Aftermath

Though victorious, Katniss and Peeta return home to a strained relationship—Peeta feels betrayed by her staged affection, while Katniss struggles with her emotions. Their defiance with the berries has sparked unrest in the districts, and President Snow watches Katniss closely, setting the stage for rebellion.
